In my practice, I strive to reach a better understanding of human behavior, focusing on themes of family life and the female experience. Taking a fluid approach, I experiment using photography, painting, drawing, writing, and video to build up impressions. These works are then collated in a 'digital installation' that enables me to observe and create parallel narratives.
These experiments are grounded in my own personal history. I use lifelong family documentation such as clips from VCR home videos, photographs, handwritten notes by my mother and myself, article excerpts and my lived experience as an art teacher. Due to the uprooting of my home across continents at a young age, I have long been fascinated by how an environment can impact behavior and culture. Community and nomadism are key themes in my work. Through the lens of being a woman, I unpack the complexities found in family life: expectations and responsibilities; sacrifices; one’s ability to forget, adapt and evolve.
While my work leans towards the art side of things, I consider myself both an artist and a designer. I paint, but I also created the platform for the painting exhibition digitally. My recent work is almost entirely personal rather than commercial because I feel it represents me as a creator and human so much more. I believe that my work relies on me being both a designer and an artist, as well as a researcher, with faith in the journey to pave the way, whatever it may be. By using a variety of media, I seek to explore and experiment with different approaches to create new narratives and explore human behavior.
I plan on creating new narratives from my collected and sorted information in the future, using AI to create something new. I hope to use my skills and experiences to make a meaningful contribution to the Masters program and its community.
